We had a bit of weather

If you haven’t heard, there’s been some inclement weather around Houston over the last couple of days. I went over to the airport after work today (really, yesterday) to study for my FAA check ride. As I pulled in, I noticed some interesting clouds just west of the airport. I did what every good American should do when staring death in the face: I whipped out my phone to catch some video!

Watch the flag as it changes direction! It wasn’t much of a funnel and it dissipated fairly quickly, but this is the first funnel cloud I’ve seen with my own eyes. I thought I’d be a little more excited about it, but my reaction was somewhat blase.

Not a good day for flying. We had a storm roll through Austin yesterday that made it look like nighttime at 11 am. While I like the word “inclement,” I think that’s a bit of an understatement.

Definitely not a good day for flying. I had some ground time scheduled with my instructor to go over topics for my check ride.

I find weather fascinating , but it’s not much fun when it turns day into night.

I’m not much for hyperbole. I realize that some people would post “YOU WON’T BELIEVE WHAT I SAW AT THE AIRPORT!” Double rainbows and small tornadoes just don’t make me shout.

Some good rotation there, nice.  You should have made like Reed Timmer and screamed about it.

That guy has seen some stuff. This was just a little creampuff compared to what he’s witnessed. Even so, I’ve never been one to start screaming about anything.

One of my bucket list vacation/adventures is to go tornado chasing. The tours can be a bit dear, but one of these days...

I’ve lived in tornado alley most of my life and have dealt with the aftermath many times. I’ve even had one destroy my three of my neighbors’ houses while just causing some minor damage to mine. I think I’ve had enough of the get- out-of-bed-and-seek-shelter type of excitement in my life. If I catch one by accident, ok. Chasing them? No thanks.

I can understand that. It’s an exciting exotic thing from a west coast viewpoint. Don’t think I’d want to sleep in the storm shelter over and over every year.
